I am a classically trained pianist and have performed in many ensemble and solo recitals throughout my musical career. I graduated from university in 2008 with a BA (Hons) in Music which included the study of Music Education. I am currently studying for an MA in Education.

I have been teaching piano and music theory for over 10 years, all ages and abilities, from beginners to grade 8 standard. I am registered with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) and my students have a 100% exam pass rate (in both practical and theory exams), with most achieving Merits or Distinctions. I have also voluntarily worked in a Saturday music school running music workshops to enable primary school children to learn to read music through learning how to play the recorder and teaching infant school children differences in pitch and rhythm through musical games in order for them to get a good understanding before embarking upon their chosen instrument. I also have 8 years experience working in a classroom setting with secondary age students as well as extensive experience working with students with SEN. I teach piano privately and in two primary schools and one secondary in Cambridgeshire.

As well as training students for exams, I also teach those who want to learn for pleasure and do not wish to take exams. Although most of my students choose to take exams through ABRSM, I am more than happy to enter students for exams with either ABRSM or Trinity Guildhall, depending on their preference. I teach mainly from my private dedicated teaching room from my home, located just outside Ramsey, but in a few cases I also travel to other towns and villages within Cambridgeshire. I also hold a current DBS check. I teach a wide repertoire of styles of music including classical, popular and jazz. Each lesson is tailored to the individual, suiting their wants, needs and abilities, in order for them to reach their full musical potential.

As well as piano I also teach music theory. My students will always learn theory during practical lessons as it is an essential skill for reading and understanding music but I also teach it separately, either in a set time during the practical lesson, or by itself, paticularly if students wish to take theory exams. Passing a grade 5 theory exam is essential in order to progress through grade 6, 7 and 8 practical exams and it is required by many colleges and universities in order to study music further.
